Darbhanga: A major robbery in broad daylight has sent shockwaves through Darbhanga, where four motorcycle-borne criminals looted jewellery and cash worth over Rs 2 crore from a shop in the busy Bara Bazaar area.
The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Nagar police station, where the accused targeted a shop named Prem Jewellers. According to police, the criminals fled with jewellery worth around Rs 2 crore along with approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash.
The brazen nature of the robbery triggered panic among traders in the market, with several shop owners expressing concern over security in the area.
Senior police officials, including SSP Jagunath Reddy and DIG Manoj Tiwari, reached the spot soon after the incident and initiated an investigation.
Police have cordoned off the surrounding area and launched a search operation to trace the accused. CCTV footage from nearby shops and streets is being examined to identify the suspects and track their movements.
Preliminary findings suggest that the criminals had conducted a recce of the area before executing the robbery, indicating a planned operation.
Authorities said efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the accused soon, while traders have demanded stronger security measures in the market.
