Darbhanga: A modern sports complex costing more than Rs 200 crore has been proposed at Nehru Stadium in Laheriasarai, with plans for a cricket stadium and facilities for several other sports.
According to information shared by Bihar BJP president and Darbhanga MLA Sanjay Saraogi, the project is intended to upgrade the existing stadium into a multi-sport complex with modern infrastructure.
The proposed development includes facilities that could support day-night cricket matches, although hosting Indian Premier League matches would require the venue to meet the standards set by the relevant cricket authorities.
Modern Cricket Stadium Proposed
The proposed cricket stadium is expected to include high-mast lighting, a hybrid turf pitch, a modern pavilion and large display screens.
Separate net practice pitches are also planned for cricketers.
The project aims to develop infrastructure capable of hosting larger matches and sporting events in the future.
Facilities For Multiple Sports
The proposed complex will not be limited to cricket. Plans include an indoor multipurpose hall with facilities for swimming, boxing, judo and wrestling.
The project also includes four badminton courts, along with facilities for basketball, squash, lawn tennis and volleyball. An आधुनिक gym is also proposed.
Sports Science And Athlete Support
Plans for the complex include sports science, biomechanics and medical facilities to support athlete training and fitness.
A 100-bed hostel has also been proposed for athletes travelling from outside Darbhanga. The project is expected to include a guest house and dining facilities for participants attending training camps and competitions.
Parking And Solar Infrastructure
A multilevel parking facility has been proposed to manage larger crowds during major sporting events.
The complex may also include a solar energy-based system to meet part of its power requirements.
Focus On Sporting Infrastructure In Mithila
The proposed project is expected to provide athletes from Darbhanga and neighbouring districts with access to training and sporting facilities closer to home.
Saraogi said the project could create new opportunities for young athletes from the Mithila region and provide them with improved infrastructure for training and competition.
The proposal is part of a plan to transform the existing Nehru Stadium into a larger multi-sport facility, with further details on implementation and timelines expected as the project progresses.
