Patna: Dense fog covering large parts of north India has badly affected train services in Bihar, especially at Patna and Danapur junctions. Because of very low visibility, trains were forced to run at slow speeds, leading to long delays. More than two dozen trains were delayed, with some running just one hour late while others were held up for over 11 hours. The situation caused major inconvenience for passengers who were waiting at stations for long periods in cold weather.
Many important trains were among those delayed. The Howrah–Duronto Express arrived around six hours late, while the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express was delayed by more than nine hours. The Vikramshila Express ran about three hours behind schedule, and the Magadh Express was delayed by nearly seven hours. Other trains such as the Brahmaputra Mail, Kumbh Express and Buxar Weekly Superfast also faced long delays, adding to the problems for travellers.
Special and long-distance trains were hit even harder. The Patna Puja Special from Udhna reached its destination more than eight hours late. The Mysore Puja Special was the worst affected, running over 11 hours behind time. The Amrit Bharat Express from Rajendra Nagar to New Delhi was delayed by nearly four hours, while the Danapur Intercity Express ran more than two hours late. Trains like the Farakka Express and the Bengaluru–Danapur Puja Special were also delayed for several hours.
The long delays led to heavy crowds at Patna and Danapur stations. Passengers were seen waiting on platforms, worried about missing connecting trains and struggling with the cold conditions. Many complained about the lack of timely information. Railway officials said that speed restrictions were necessary to ensure safety during foggy conditions and that drivers were asked to be extra careful. They said train services would return to normal once the weather improves and advised passengers to check train status before leaving for the station.
