Patna: The ninth day of Sharadiya Navratri, Mahanavami, is being observed on Wednesday in Raviyoga with devotion and rituals dedicated to Goddess Siddhidatri, regarded as the bestower of all siddhis, or divine powers.
Across temples, pandals, and homes, devotees are completing their nine-day worship with recitations from sacred texts including the Durga Saptashati, Ramcharitmanas, Hanuman Chalisa, and Sunderkand, followed by havan, tarpan, and pushpanjali. The day is also marked by traditional Kanya pujan, where young girls are worshipped as embodiments of the goddess, and devotees partook of prasad.
A city based astrologer explained that, according to the Devi Purana, worship of Siddhidatri fulfills both spiritual and worldly desires. He further noted the significance of Kanya pujan as described in the Devi Bhagavat Purana, where girls between two and ten years of age are revered as divine forms.
With the conclusion of Mahanavami, devotees will bid farewell to the goddess on Vijayadashami on Thursday, under auspicious planetary alignments. Observers of Navratri fasts will end their rituals early in the morning, and many will mark Vijayadashami by wearing Jayanti, believed to bestow peace, prosperity, and health.
