Muzaffarpur/ Patna: All hell broke loose in Muzaffarpur on Thursday after an emergency Dial‑112 police vehicle lost control and struck two schoolgirls in the Jajuar area. Fifteen-year-old Kiran Jha died en route to hospital, while 14-year-old Mehzabi Bano was left critically injured.
According to witnesses, the girls had paused at a roadside shop to buy snacks after school when the speeding vehicle crashed into them and the stall. Eyewitnesses also alleged that the four occupants in the vehicle — three police personnel and a contracted driver — fled the scene without offering assistance.
Angered residents retaliated immediately, blocking roads, detaining police officers, and vandalising the vehicle. Senior officials, including Rural SP Vidya Sagar and Town ASP Shahriyar Akhtar, arrived to defuse the situation. The victim’s uncle, Rishi Kumar Chaudhary, revealed that Kiran was the daughter of local shopkeeper Rupesh Jha.
Police have confirmed that the vehicle, responding to an emergency call, veered off near Government High School in Jajuar. One girl succumbed to injuries while being transported to Sri Krishna Medical College; the other remains hospitalised. A formal investigation has been launched and the driver—if found culpable—will face legal action.
