Patna: The Centre has appointed Dimpy Garg, a senior officer of the 1990 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), as the next General Manager of East Central Railway (ECR), Hajipur, according to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on the recommendation of the Ministry of Railways.
To Assume Charge From September 1
According to the order issued on July 25, Garg will assume office from September 1, 2026, or from the date she takes charge, whichever is later.
She has been appointed to an ex-cadre post at Level-16 of the pay matrix, one of the highest administrative positions in the Indian Railways.
Garg will succeed Chhatrasal Singh, the current General Manager of East Central Railway, who is due to retire on August 31.
Key Rail Projects Expected To Gain Momentum
East Central Railway, headquartered in Hajipur, is one of the country’s busiest railway zones, handling significant passenger traffic as well as freight movement across Bihar, Jharkhand and parts of neighbouring states.
Officials expect Garg to oversee the next phase of infrastructure development, expansion of passenger amenities, enhancement of freight capacity and implementation of railway safety initiatives across the zone.
Cabinet Clears Another Railway Appointment
The same ACC order also approved the appointment of Vivek Khare, a 1989-batch IRSME officer, as the next General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered in Guwahati.
Khare is scheduled to assume charge on November 1, 2026, or from the date he takes office, whichever is later.
Copies of the appointment order have been forwarded to the Railway Board, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Cabinet Secretariat, completing the formal approval process for both appointments.
