Patna: A disabled man was killed late on Friday night after being crushed with a stone and stabbed while sleeping on a platform in Maner, Patna. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Jeet Lal Rai.
Eyewitness Laxman Rai said that at around 11 pm, Jaichand Rai from a nearby village approached the platform, began verbally abusing Jeet Lal Rai, and threatened to kill him. When Laxman Rai tried to intervene, he was able to escape an attack with a knife, but Jeet Lal Rai was fatally assaulted.
Local residents said the attack stemmed from a recent theft of musical instruments from a nearby temple. Jeet Lal Rai and his companions had been accused of involvement, which reportedly angered the attacker.
Siya Devi, the victim’s sister, said her brother had no personal enmity with anyone. “Around 2 am, Laxman Rai came to inform us that my brother had been murdered. When we reached the spot, he was lying soaked in blood,” she said.
Maner police arrived at the scene and sent the body to Danapur Subdivision Hospital for postmortem. Pradeep Kumar, the station officer, said the investigation is ongoing and the perpetrators will be arrested soon.
