Patna: A family dispute over a barking dog turned tragic late Sunday night in Malbigha village under Fatuha police station limits, where a man shot dead his cousin. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Dheeraj Kumar.
Argument Over Dog Leads to Violence
According to initial reports, the incident began when Dheeraj Kumar’s dog barked at his cousin and neighbor, Pappu Kumar. The situation escalated into a heated argument, which quickly turned violent. In a fit of rage, Pappu allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol and shot Dheeraj. The victim collapsed on the spot with severe injuries.
Family Members Create Ruckus at Hospital
Both men were rushed to the local government hospital, where doctors declared Dheeraj dead on arrival. His family members created a commotion at the hospital, expressing anger over the handling of the situation.
Accused Beaten by Villagers
After the shooting, enraged family members and villagers overpowered Pappu and brutally thrashed him. The accused sustained serious injuries and was later referred to Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) for advanced treatment.
Police Intervention and Body Recovery
When police attempted to shift Pappu to PMCH in an ambulance, the deceased’s relatives tried to block the transfer, leading to further chaos at the hospital. Fatuha SDPO Awadhesh Kumar and other officers had to intervene to control the situation. Despite repeated persuasion, the family initially refused to hand over Dheeraj’s body. Eventually, with additional police force deployed, the body was recovered and sent to Nalanda Medical College for postmortem.
Investigation Underway
Rural SP Vikram Sihag confirmed that the matter is under investigation. “The incident may be linked to an old rivalry. The accused, Pappu Kumar, is in critical condition and is receiving treatment at PMCH,” he said.
Police have tightened security in the village to prevent further clashes, while a case has been registered and further inquiries are ongoing.
