Patna: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 2.949 kg of Methaqualone, a narcotic substance, from a Nigerian national travelling on the Northeast Express (12505) at Patliputra Railway Junction. According to the agency, the passenger was intercepted on August 1 following specific intelligence inputs and later arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The DRI said the accused was travelling from Guwahati to New Delhi when officers identified and intercepted her in the H1 coach of the train. Further investigation is under way to determine whether the seizure is linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
How the Seizure Was Made
According to the DRI, officers acted on specific intelligence indicating that a foreign national was carrying narcotic drugs concealed in her luggage.
During a detailed search of the passenger’s black trolley bag, officials recovered two polythene packets containing approximately 2.949 kg of white powder concealed inside the baggage.
The agency said the substance tested positive for Methaqualone using a field-testing kit.
Arrest and Legal Action
According to the DRI, the entire 2,949 grams of Methaqualone was seized under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The accused was arrested and produced before the Special NDPS Court in Patna, which remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.
Officials said the investigation is continuing to identify other individuals allegedly connected to the suspected narcotics syndicate.
DRI’s Anti-Narcotics Drive in Bihar
According to the DRI, the agency has intensified its crackdown on narcotics trafficking across Bihar during 2026.
Since January 2026, the agency said it has seized:
* 241 kg of ganja
* 31.1 kg of charas
* 8.144 kg of hydroponic weed
* 6.2 kg of other narcotic substances
* 2.949 kg of Methaqualone
According to the DRI, the seized narcotics are collectively valued at approximately Rs 36 crore. The agency said 10 people have been arrested in six separate cases registered under the NDPS Act, 1985.
Investigation Continues
The DRI said it is continuing its investigation to identify other members of the alleged drug trafficking network and trace the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
Officials added that the agency remains focused on preventing the smuggling and illegal distribution of narcotic drugs through rail and other transport networks.
