Patna: Tensions continue to rise in Mokama as police intensify their investigation into the murder of 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav, who was killed during a violent clash between political supporters on October 30. Authorities are now searching for the vehicle that allegedly ran over Yadav, while 80 people have been arrested in connection with the case so far.
According to Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma, the investigation remains active, with the police still unable to recover either the firearm reportedly used during the incident or the vehicle that crushed Yadav. “The search is ongoing, and we are interrogating suspects to gather more details about the weapon, vehicle, and those involved,” Sharma said.
Anant Singh sent to judicial custody
JD(U) candidate and murder accused Anant Singh has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and will be questioned during this period. The SSP stated that while initial reports suggested Yadav was shot in the leg, the postmortem confirmed his death was caused by a vehicle running over his chest. Investigators are now working to determine ownership of the weapon and the source of the vehicle used in the crime.
CID takes over investigation
The Bihar Police Crime Investigation Department (CID) has officially taken charge of the case. CID DIG Jayant Kant visited the crime scene in Mokama on Saturday, accompanied by a forensic science team, to review all aspects of the incident. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analysed to identify the culprits.
Security tightened in Mokama
Amid growing political tension ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, security has been heightened across Mokama. Thirteen companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), two units of the Special Task Force (STF), and four Quick Response Teams (QRT) have been deployed to maintain order. The station house officers of Bhadaur and Ghoswari have been suspended for negligence.
Additional protection has also been provided to Anant Singh, Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, and RJD candidate Veena Devi.
Political storm ahead of elections
The incident has reignited political turmoil in the Mokama Assembly constituency, a region already known for its volatile political landscape. The clash that led to Yadav’s death reportedly broke out between the convoys of JD(U) candidate Anant Singh and Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi near the Ghoswari–Bhadaur border.
