Buxar: Dumraon Railway Station, an important stop for passengers in Bihar, is now facing a serious crisis. The station, which sees dozens of trains and thousands of travellers every day, is being protected by only one home guard. Locals say this guard is forced to work round-the-clock, without proper support or backup. With no proper security in place, the station has now become a hub for criminal activities, including liquor smuggling, theft, and open sale of alcohol on the platforms.
Passengers say the situation has worsened in recent months. Liquor smugglers are using the station freely, unloading illegal alcohol directly from trains. Some local vendors are even selling liquor openly at the station without any fear of police action. Criminals are also seen hanging around the station, and some locals claim they are using the premises as a shelter. Just two days ago, a large amount of illegal firecrackers was seized from a house right next to the station’s ticket counter. This incident has once again exposed the complete failure of the station’s security system.
The lack of police presence has also made the station unsafe for passengers. During busy hours, pickpockets and small-time thieves become very active, making travellers feel unsafe. In the past, the station had better security — including a full GRP (Government Railway Police) post, with a sub-inspector and four police officers. At that time, passengers could file complaints easily, and even minor issues were quickly handled. Now, however, only one or two Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers are seen from time to time — mainly for formality, and not for active duty.
Locals are now demanding immediate action from the administration. Many say that having to travel to Buxar to file a complaint discourages passengers from speaking up. With elections around the corner, people fear that this lack of security could lead to a major incident if not fixed soon. Residents are calling for full-time police staff at the station, better monitoring to stop liquor smuggling, and overall improved safety for passengers. They hope the authorities will listen — before it’s too late.
