Patna: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is developing a comprehensive database to ensure timely justice and compensation for families affected by road accidents in Bihar. As part of this effort, details including the cause of accidents and investigation reports are being uploaded on the Integrated Road Accident Database (I-RAD) and E-Detailed Accident Report (e-DAR) portals.
According to the Transport Department, 39,162 road accident cases have been registered on the I-RAD portal in the last three years. Patna recorded the highest number with 4,050 cases, followed by Muzaffarpur with 2,030 cases. So far, around 18,000 cases have been uploaded on the e-DAR portal, of which 2,000 have progressed to Form Seven.
Form Seven is treated as a tribunal claim petition. If no separate compensation application is filed by the accident victim, the Digital Accident Report submitted to the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal through e-DAR is considered an application for compensation, enabling further legal action.
The e-DAR portal, a digital version of I-RAD, compiles all information related to road accidents in one place and is directly linked with I-RAD, with over 90 percent of the data being auto-transferred.
Officials say that registering vehicle details, accident dates and FIRs on e-DAR has improved claim execution and helped identify accident causes and hotspots for effective interventions.
Police officers play a key role by reaching accident sites promptly and uploading photos, videos and other evidence through the e-DAR app to strengthen the database and support victims’ families swiftly.
