Hajipur: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated with fervour at the East Central Railway (ECR) headquarters in Hajipur on January 26. General Manager Chhatrasal Singh led the event, hoisting the national flag and inspecting the parade by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Scouts and Guides. The national anthem was played, with Scouts and Guides saluting the flag in unison. Singh extended Republic Day greetings to railway employees, rail users, and media representatives.
The event saw the participation of senior officials, including Additional General Manager Amarendra Kumar and Principal Chief Security Commissioner Amresh Kumar. Members of the East Central Railway Mahila Kalyan Sangathan, led by President Sunita Singh, also attended the celebrations.
Key Achievements Highlighted
In his address, Singh outlined the milestones achieved by the East Central Railway during the current financial year. ECR recorded an impressive initial income of Rs 23,668 crore, a 4.79% increase compared to the previous year. Freight loading reached over 149 million tonnes by December, marking a 2.61% rise over the same period last year.
Efforts towards energy conservation were emphasized, with the installation of 350 kW solar panels at Patna Sahib, Rajendranagar Coaching Complex, and other locations, resulting in savings of Rs 1.63 crore by December 2024.
Infrastructure development also saw significant progress, with 61 km of new railway lines and doubling works completed, alongside the strengthening of 126 bridges.
Enhanced Passenger Facilities
Singh highlighted ECR’s focus on improving passenger convenience. In the financial year up to December, 17 new train services were introduced, two extended, and the frequency of another two increased. Additionally, 31 trains were provided halts at various stations, and 239 special trains operated during peak seasons. Over 98 lakh passengers were transported during Chhath Puja alone, a 14% increase from the previous year.
The railway also expanded facilities at stations, including the installation of six lifts, two escalators, eight elevated walkways, and the upgradation of 16 platforms. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 97 stations are being redeveloped with modern amenities and designs reflecting local culture and heritage.
Highlights of the Celebration
The event featured a demonstration by the Railway Protection Force’s dog squad, showcasing their role in ensuring passenger safety. A patriotic cultural programme was presented by ECR artists, adding colour and spirit to the occasion.
