Motihari/Patna: A case involving the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old deaf and mute woman has been reported from a village under the Ghodasahan police station area of East Champaran district. Police have arrested one person in connection with the case, while an investigation is under way to determine whether others were involved.
According to Ghodasahan Station House Officer (SHO) Amarjit Kumar, the victim’s mother filed a complaint at the police station following the incident. An FIR was subsequently registered and the investigation initiated.
Police have arrested Sheikh Parvez, while efforts are under way to establish the number of other suspects allegedly involved and determine their respective roles.
FSL team collects evidence
Given the seriousness of the allegations, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to the scene. The team collected evidence from the location, which police said would be important to the investigation.
The victim has also been sent for a medical examination. Police are examining the medical findings alongside the forensic evidence and other material collected during the investigation.
“An FIR has been registered based on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, and necessary action has been initiated. One accused has been arrested. The police are advancing the investigation based on medical reports and forensic evidence. Every aspect of the incident is being thoroughly investigated,” SHO Amarjit Kumar said.
Police investigating involvement of other suspects
Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime and examining evidence to establish whether other people were involved.
The incident has also triggered anger among local residents, who have demanded strict action against those found responsible.
However, police said the complete details of the case will emerge only after the ongoing investigation, medical examination and forensic analysis are completed, followed by due judicial proceedings.
