Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has dismissed as “false and baseless” a claim by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi that a woman voter’s name was removed from Bihar’s electoral roll.
The Commission said it had ordered an inquiry by the district magistrate of Rohtas after Gandhi circulated a video alleging irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. The findings, now made public, confirm that the voter in question – Ranju Devi – and her family members remain on the rolls.
According to the report, Devi, a resident of Nauhatta block in Chenari assembly constituency, is registered at booth number 342, serial number 930, with an EPIC number of AQQ1899913. Her husband, Sudhir Ram, and relatives Anita Devi, Sushil Ram, Shiv Govind Ram, Semri Devi, Satyendra Ram and Virendra Ram are all listed at booth number 343 in the draft electoral roll.
The Commission said the publication of the report was aimed at countering “misleading claims” and ensuring transparency in the revision process.
