Eco-Friendly Tourist Facility and Development Projects Inaugurated at Patna Zoo

Patna: The Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, commonly known as Patna zoo, has unveiled its latest addition—a newly constructed eco-friendly facility shed and teaching house within its medicinal garden. The inauguration ceremony was led by Dr. Prem Kumar, Bihar’s Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Minister, in the presence of dignitaries including Digha MLA Dr. Sanjeev Chaurasia, Zoo Director Hemant Patil, and other officials.

The Rs 27-lakh project aims to educate visitors about the significance of medicinal plants and bamboo species while promoting biodiversity. The structure, built using various bamboo species, provides an environmentally sustainable and weather-protected space for tourists.

Eco-Education and Biodiversity Promotion

Designed to enhance the visitor experience, the shed and teaching house serve as an educational hub, informing tourists about the uses and importance of medicinal plants. The eco-friendly facility also offers shelter from sun and rain, making it both functional and inviting.

Foundation Stones Laid for Additional Development Projects

Dr. Prem Kumar also laid foundation stones for several other projects to improve park infrastructure and enhance visitor amenities. The approved projects include:

  1. Road Improvement in the Zoo
    • Cost: Rs 97.74 lakh
    • Purpose: Upgrading black-top roads to improve internal transportation and visitor access
  2. Electrical Cable Installation
    • Cost: Rs 11.11 lakh
    • Purpose: Ensuring uninterrupted power supply within zoo enclosures
  3. Tiger Enclosure Dry Moat Upgradation
    • Cost: Rs 24.12 lakh
    • Purpose: Enhancing the safety and functionality of the tiger enclosure
  4. Drinking Water Pipeline Upgrade on Thandi Sadak
    • Cost: Rs 50.96 lakh
    • Purpose: Providing clean and reliable drinking water for tourists and staff

Enhancing Visitor Experience

Patna zoo, known for its diverse flora and fauna, attracts thousands of visitors annually. These initiatives are expected to elevate the park’s appeal while ensuring visitor comfort and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Prem Kumar emphasized the importance of these projects in making the park more attractive and convenient. “Successful implementation will not only enhance the park’s beauty but also improve the overall experience for tourists,” he said.
