Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids at two premises linked to Manish Kumar, an accountant posted at the Hajipur Municipal Council office, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
The action was taken following allegations that Kumar accumulated assets significantly exceeding his known sources of income. The searches were carried out at his residence in Bagmali and at the Hajipur Municipal Council office.
Case Registered After Complaint
According to officials, the EOU received a complaint alleging corruption against the accountant. Following a preliminary inquiry, the agency registered a case and obtained a search warrant from the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur.
Based on the court’s order, EOU teams launched coordinated search operations at the identified locations on Thursday morning.
Assets Worth More Than Rs 2 Crore Under Scrutiny
Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Kumar may have acquired assets worth Rs 2,02,31,500 beyond his known sources of income.
Officials stated that the alleged excess assets represent approximately 208.57 per cent more than his legitimate earnings, according to the assessment conducted during the investigation.
Searches Continue
EOU teams began the search operation early on Thursday and continued examining documents, financial records and other materials recovered from the premises.
Officials said the final valuation of the assets and further details regarding the case will be available after the completion of the search proceedings and verification of the recovered records. The investigation is ongoing.
