Patna: The Department of Art, Culture and Youth, Government of Bihar, through its film corporation, organised Cine Samvad at Bihar Lalit Kala Academy, sparking an important conversation on the distribution challenges faced by local filmmakers.
The event, themed “Challenges and Possibilities of Film Distribution in Bihar,” brought together filmmakers, students, technicians, and industry experts. The keynote speaker, National Film Award-winning director Abhilash Sharma, emphasised Bihar’s creative potential but pointed to weak distribution infrastructure as a major hurdle. He advocated for government-supported exhibition platforms and prioritised subsidies for films rooted in Bihar’s culture.
Mrs Ruby, IAS, General Manager of the Bihar State Film Development and Finance Corporation, said over 15 film projects had already been approved, with more underway. “The presence of so many passionate voices signals a bright future for cinema in Bihar,” she remarked.
The programme was moderated by Arvind Ranjan Das, Consultant, and featured a panel discussion that called for collaboration between the state and private sector. Key demands included dedicated cinema halls, a film city in Bihar, and greater support for local artists.
