Patna: More than 52 lakh names are likely to be removed from Bihar’s voter list under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) drive currently underway. The Election Commission released new data on Tuesday, revealing that 18,66,869 of these voters are reported dead, while 26,01,031 have shifted to other places. Another 7,50,742 voters are enrolled at more than one location, and 11,484 have addresses that could not be verified.
As of June 24, 2025, Bihar has 7,89,69,844 total voters, out of which over 90 percent have received counting papers. The Election Commission stated that 97.30 percent of voters are covered under SIR, with 90.37 percent – amounting to 7,13,65,460 revision forms – submitted online.
Around 1 lakh Booth Level Officers, 4 lakh volunteers, and 1.5 lakh BLAs appointed by district presidents of major political parties are engaged in ensuring the accuracy of the voter list ahead of the draft publication on August 1, 2025. Political party representatives have been given detailed lists of 21,36,000 voters whose enumeration forms remain pending.
From August 1 to September 1, any citizen will have the opportunity to file objections to the draft list before it is finalised.
