Patna: A special CBI court in Patna has sentenced a former senior accountant of the Postal Department, Lohra Bhagat, to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1.1 lakh in a high-profile cheating and forgery case involving dual government jobs under a false identity.
The case, originally registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on March 31, 2014, revealed that Bhagat had simultaneously held two government positions—one in the Postal Department and the other as Deputy Chairman of the Bihar State Scheduled Tribe Commission—by fraudulently posing under the alias Lalit Bhagat.
According to the CBI probe, Bhagat was employed as a senior accountant in the office of the Director of Accounts, Department of Posts, between 2010 and 2013. During this period, he also secured a three-year tenure in the Bihar government’s tribal commission using the forged identity.
Investigators confirmed that Lohra Bhagat and Lalit Bhagat were the same individual. Between July 2010 and July 2011, he simultaneously drew salaries from both the Government of India and the Government of Bihar. In total, he received ₹3.41 lakh from the Postal Department and ₹14.87 lakh from the Bihar government, in addition to availing vehicle lease benefits worth ₹32,850 per month and other allowances.
The CBI filed a chargesheet against him on March 31, 2015, following which the trial commenced. On finding sufficient evidence and merit in the charges, the court delivered its verdict on July 22, 2025, convicting Bhagat for criminal misconduct, cheating, and forgery.
