Patna: Political tension has flared in Mokama just days before the Bihar Assembly elections after a supporter of Jan Suraaj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi was shot dead on Thursday. The incident has rocked the Tal area, with police naming JD (U) candidate and former MLA Anant Singh among the accused in the case.
According to police reports, the deceased, Dularchand Yadav, was killed following a violent clash between rival groups in the Khushal Chak area of Mokama. Based on a statement from Yadav’s grandson, an FIR has been registered against Anant Singh, his nephews Ranveer and Karmaveer, and two others. The complaint alleges that Singh’s supporters first opened fire and then ran over Yadav with a vehicle.
Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed that several damaged vehicles were recovered from the scene and said that Yadav, who had prior criminal records, was found dead inside one of them. He added that police patrols and checkpoints have been intensified across the region to prevent further unrest.

Meanwhile, Anant Singh has denied the allegations, calling them a “political conspiracy” by RJD leader Suraj Bhan Singh. “I was returning from campaigning, and my vehicles had already passed. Jan Suraaj supporters attacked the vehicles behind me,” Singh claimed.
The clash reportedly began when the convoys of Jan Suraaj and JD (U) candidates crossed paths during campaigning, escalating from a verbal spat to gunfire. Panic has spread across nearby villages as police continue their investigation.
