Patna: Folk singer Sharda Sinha, revered as the ‘Bihar Kokila’, remains critically ill at Delhi’s AIIMS, with no signs of improvement in her condition. Reports suggest that her creatinine levels and white blood cell count are rising, sparking concerns about her health. Union Health Minister JP Nadda has reportedly spoken to the AIIMS Director to inquire about Sinha’s condition, while the hospital administration remains in close contact with her family.
Sinha, 72, was admitted to AIIMS a week ago and moved to the ICU on Saturday after her health deteriorated. However, AIIMS has yet to release an official statement regarding her condition. Fans and well-wishers across Bihar are anxiously hoping for her recovery, with special prayers and Mahamrityunjay Jaap rituals being performed in Muzaffarpur and Gopalganj.
Sinha is best known for her Chhath songs, which are an integral part of the festival celebrations in Bihar. Her absence this year, given her deteriorating health, has left fans worried as the Chhath Mahaparva approaches. Sinha also gained national recognition for her contributions to Bollywood, lending her voice to hit films like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Kaun. In 2018, she was honoured with the Padma Bhushan for her contributions to Indian music.
According to her son, Anshuman Sinha, the singer had been struggling with eating and drinking for the past week, leading to her hospitalisation. Despite being under the care of doctors, her condition continues to worsen.
This health crisis comes just weeks after the death of her husband, Brajkishore Sinha, who passed away on 22 September from a brain haemorrhage. The couple had been married for 54 years.
Fans across the country remain hopeful for her recovery, as Sinha’s voice and contributions to folk music hold a special place in Bihar’s cultural heritage.
