Patna: As Chhath Puja approaches, a new song by beloved folk singer Sharda Sinha has been released, even as the celebrated artist continues her treatment at Delhi’s AIIMS hospital. The video, which is available on Sinha’s official YouTube channel, includes heartfelt lyrics: “Dukhwa Mitaai Chhathi Maiya… Raue Aasra Hamaar… Sabke Purveli Mansa… Hamro Sunali Pukar.” An audio version of the song had been released five days earlier.

In an emotional Facebook post, Sinha’s son, Anshuman, shared the news, writing, “Mother’s battle with health continues. I have made a small effort to release a video of her new Chhath song Dukhwa Mitaai Chhathi Maiya by piecing together cherished memories and scenic moments of Chhath, all from the AIIMS campus with just my laptop and mobile data.” He expressed gratitude to friends who helped bring the project to life and asked fans to support his mother with prayers, saying, “If anyone raises a finger or hand after watching the video, let it be in prayer for mother.”

Sharda Sinha, who has been in AIIMS for the past 10 days, was admitted to the Medical Oncology Ward after a severe deterioration in her health. She has reportedly been struggling with eating and drinking, and her condition worsened significantly on October 26. The setback comes after a challenging period for Sinha, following the recent death of her husband, Brajkishore Sinha, who passed away on September 22 due to a brain hemorrhage.

Known as a voice of the Chhath festival, Sinha’s songs have become an enduring part of the celebration’s cultural fabric. Her contributions to folk music were recognized with the Padma Bhushan award in 2018. Her journey in music began with a performance at her brother’s wedding, and she has since become an icon of Indian folk music, especially through her Chhath songs, which continue to resonate deeply with listeners across generations.
