Motihari/Patna: A major burglary has been reported from Motihari district, where thieves allegedly stole valuables worth around Rs. 50 lakh from the home of a retired teacher in East Champaran.
The incident took place in Parsauni Kapoor village under the Patahi police station area. According to police and the complainant, the burglars broke the lock of the main gate before entering the house. They then forced open locks of six rooms, trunks, boxes and cupboards, and fled with gold jewellery, silver ornaments, costly clothes, land documents and other valuables.
Family away at wedding when theft took place
The homeowner, former teacher Bachcha Kumar, told police that the family had locked the house on April 23 and travelled to Bhataha village to attend a wedding at his son’s in-laws’ residence.
He said the thieves appeared to have taken advantage of the empty house and carried out the theft during Tuesday night.
Among the stolen items were ornaments belonging to his wife, daughter, sister-in-law and two nieces, along with important property papers, Kumar said.
Villagers alerted owner in the morning
The burglary came to light on Wednesday morning when local residents noticed suspicious activity around the house and informed Kumar by phone.
He returned home immediately and found the locks broken and rooms ransacked. Villagers said no disturbance was noticed during the night, and the crime was noticed only after the damaged entrance was seen in daylight.
Kumar said the scale of the loss had left the family deeply distressed.

After receiving information, police officials including SDPO Kumar Chandan with police officer Ajay Kumar reached the scene with a team.
Police inspected the property and called a forensic unit to collect evidence. CCTV footage from nearby areas is also being examined.
