Betiya: Five friends aged 10 to 13 went to the Hadboda river near Gopala Brahma Sthan in Betiya on Friday afternoon. They wanted to eat jamun and make Instagram reels together. But in just ten minutes, their happy moments turned into a big tragedy for their families.
The children entered the water laughing, but only one of them, Rehan Sheikh, returned alive. First Irshad started drowning. His brother Dilshad jumped in to save him but he also drowned. Rizwan went ahead to save both, but he too disappeared underwater. Finally, Asif tried to save them all, but he also drowned. Rehan could only watch helplessly and then ran back to call the villagers for help.
The families are in deep shock. Asif’s mother Shahnaz lost her husband six months ago and now her only son. She kept asking why she should live now. Rizwan’s mother Rabunessa was crying loudly, while his father Firoz said there is no use of any compensation when his children are gone. Irshad and Dilshad’s mother Roshni refused any help, saying money is useless without her sons. The whole village is mourning their deaths today.
