Patna: Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna is set to enhance its passenger experience with the addition of four new aerobridges, expected to become operational within the next two months.
Currently, only one of the five planned aerobridges is in use at the newly inaugurated terminal. The move to activate the remaining four is part of a broader effort to increase capacity and improve convenience, particularly during peak travel times when the airport handles up to 3,000 passengers.
Demolition work has begun on the old terminal building, with a deadline of August 31 for its complete removal. The aerobridges are scheduled to be commissioned after the demolition is completed.
The new terminal, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, spans 65,155 square metres and features modern amenities including 54 check-in counters, eight X-ray baggage scanners, five baggage conveyor belts, and 11 boarding gates.
The additional aerobridges aim to reduce the need for passengers to walk across the tarmac — a common inconvenience, particularly in adverse weather conditions — by allowing direct access from terminal to aircraft.
