Patna: Patna residents will once again be able to enjoy free movie screenings on the giant outdoor screen at Gandhi Maidan, with the facility set to resume operations this weekend.
Located near Gate No. 4 of Gandhi Maidan, the mega screen will now host film screenings every Saturday and Sunday from 6 pm onwards. As part of the relaunch, audiences can watch the popular Pushpa franchise, with Pushpa: The Rise scheduled for June 13 and Pushpa 2: The Rule on June 14.
In addition to movies, the screen will also be used to broadcast cricket matches and various cultural events.
Can Accommodate Up to 5,000 Viewers
The mega screen was originally launched by Patna Smart City Limited in 2021 but had remained non-operational for several years.
Measuring 70 feet by 40 feet, the giant screen is among the city’s most prominent public entertainment facilities. It can be viewed comfortably from distances ranging between 70 and 320 feet.
The venue can accommodate around 5,000 viewers at a time and is equipped with Full HD projection, edge-blending technology and a Dolby Digital surround sound system, offering a high-quality viewing experience.
One of the Largest Outdoor Screening Facilities
Developed under the Patna Smart City Mission, the Gandhi Maidan mega screen is claimed to be the country’s largest outdoor public screening facility where people can watch films and other events free of cost.
While cities such as Vadodara, Mumbai and Delhi have drive-in theatres where viewers watch movies from their vehicles, the Gandhi Maidan screen is significantly larger in size and can be viewed from distances of 30 to 320 feet.
Officials said the setup can accommodate nearly 5,000 spectators simultaneously, far exceeding the capacity of most outdoor screening venues in other cities, which typically host between 650 and 1,000 viewers at a time.
Inflatable Screen with No Permanent Construction
The Gandhi Maidan screen is inflatable in nature. Before each show, the structure is filled with air and erected using a truss system. Once the screening concludes, the screen is deflated and packed away.
The screen weighs approximately 1,200 kilograms.
Since no permanent construction has been carried out as part of the project, Gandhi Maidan remains available for other activities such as rallies, fairs, exhibitions, training camps and public events without any restrictions.
