Patna: A modern steamer service introduced to aid flood-affected residents in Danapur has been suspended after crew members were attacked by local boatmen on Friday.
According to officials, the incident occurred at Panapur Ghat when around six boatmen armed with bamboo sticks boarded the Ganga One steamer and confronted the crew over its operation. When the pilot and workers attempted to stop them, a scuffle broke out. Crew member Dilip Kumar sustained minor injuries, while pilot Gopal Mandal managed to steer the vessel away from the attackers, who later jumped off and fled.
The steamer had been ferrying residents from Nasriganj Ghat to Panapur Ghat when the attack took place. Launched only two days earlier by the sub-divisional officer, the service was offered free of cost for Diara residents through a collaboration between the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation, the Inland Waterways Authority of India, and the district administration.
