Patna: The water level of the Ganga in Patna has risen sharply over the past 24 hours, bringing the river close to its danger mark at several points.
The level increased by 42 cm at Digha Ghat and 33 cm at Gandhi Ghat during the period. It is now 143 cm below the danger mark at Digha and 41 cm below it at Gandhi Ghat.
Riverfront Area Inundated
Rising water has inundated parts of the riverfront promenade between the Collectorate and Patna City. The stretch, previously used by residents for walking, was submerged on Tuesday, disrupting movement between the Collectorate and Gandhi Ghat.
The situation has also affected low-lying areas along the river, with floodwaters spreading across parts of the Diara region.
Administration Issues Safety Directions
The Patna district administration has advised residents against bathing at unauthorised ghats or entering deep water. It has also urged people to keep a close watch on children near the river.
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has directed all Circle Officers to monitor river water levels in their respective areas and submit immediate reports on the situation.
Officials have also been instructed to stop boat operations after sunset and take action against overloaded or unregistered boats.
Bind Toli Surrounded By Water
Bind Toli is now surrounded by floodwater, while the access road from Kurji Mor has been blocked.
Water has spread across the Diara region, raising concerns that approach roads to villages such as Nakta Diara could be submerged within the next one or two days if the river continues to rise.
The administration is monitoring the water level and local conditions as the Ganga remains close to the danger mark at Gandhi Ghat.
