Patna: The Transport Department has set up a special wing at the Patna District Transport Office (DTO) to assist victims of hit-and-run accidents and families of those who died in such incidents in obtaining compensation.
The dedicated team will proactively contact injured victims and the dependents of deceased victims, guide them through the compensation process and help complete the required documentation and formalities.
Families to Get Assistance Without Repeated Office Visits
The initiative aims to reduce the difficulties faced by families while applying for government compensation. Previously, victims and their relatives often had to visit multiple offices to understand the process and submit documents.
The new team will provide information about the required procedures and documents and help applicants move their claims forward.
The initiative is also aimed at reducing dependence on intermediaries, with officials assisting affected families directly.
Applications Through Sahyog Portal to Be Followed Up
The special wing will also follow up on applications submitted through the Sahyog portal. Officials will contact applicants and guide them on the next steps after their applications are received.
In one such case, Patna resident Rajiv Kumar, who lost his father in a hit-and-run accident, applied for compensation through the portal. He was subsequently contacted by the DTO office and asked to visit the department.
According to Kumar, officials guided him through the required formalities and informed him that the compensation would be released after completion of the investigation and other procedures.
Focus on Faster and More Accessible Relief
The Transport Department’s initiative is intended to make the compensation mechanism more accessible to families affected by hit-and-run accidents. By providing direct assistance with documentation and follow-up, the department aims to reduce delays and make it easier for eligible victims and dependents to receive government relief
