Gaya: Gaya Junction in Bihar is set for a major transformation, with passengers expected to benefit from modern, world-class amenities under a Rs 300 crore redevelopment project. The station, a gateway to one of Bihar’s most prominent tourist and religious destinations, is being redesigned to tackle long-standing issues such as overcrowding and outdated infrastructure. Officials anticipate that the new facilities could be ready as early as June.
The redevelopment plans include expanded platforms to accommodate longer trains, a modern ticketing hall, digital ticketing services, queue management systems, and dedicated seating arrangements. In addition, the station will feature parking facilities, e-rickshaw stands, “drop-and-go” lanes, pedestrian zones, and accessibility provisions for differently-abled passengers, including ramps, elevators, and Braille signage.
Aesthetic upgrades are also a key focus. Walls will be adorned with murals and paintings depicting local landmarks such as the Mahabodhi Temple, Falgu River, and Vishnupad Temple, giving the station a distinctive identity while enhancing its appeal to visitors.
Passenger safety is being prioritised, with plans to install 360-degree high-resolution surveillance cameras, modern baggage scanners, a centralised control room, and a comprehensive fire-safety network. Officials say the redevelopment aims not only to improve commuter convenience but also to strengthen Gaya’s reputation as a major tourist hub.
