Gaya: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for most parts of Gaya district, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, rainfall and strong winds over the next two to three hours.
According to a nowcast weather warning issued by the Meteorological Centre, Patna, 23 of the district’s 24 blocks are likely to witness adverse weather conditions. The department said weather activity could intensify rapidly, with moderate rain and thunderstorm activity expected at several places.
The alert covers Atri, Amas, Imamganj, Konch, Khizarsarai, Gaya, Guraru, Gurua, Tikari, Dumaria, Dobhi, Paraiya, Fatehpur, Banke Bazar, Barachatti, Belaganj, Bodh Gaya, Manpur, Mohanpur, Mohra, Wazirganj and Sherghati blocks.
The weather department has also warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph. Such conditions could lead to fallen trees, disruption of power supply and damage to weak structures.
Apart from Gaya, Orange Alerts have also been issued for parts of Aurangabad, Rohtas, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sheohar and Sitamarhi districts.
Officials have urged people to avoid open spaces during thunderstorms and remain indoors whenever possible. Residents have been advised not to take shelter under trees during lightning strikes and to move to safe, permanent structures.
The department has also advised farmers to suspend agricultural activities until weather conditions improve. Fields, water bodies and open grounds are considered high-risk locations during lightning events.
According to the IMD, the next two to three hours are expected to be the most active period of the weather system. Residents have been asked to keep track of official weather updates and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
