Gaya: A young man’s body was recovered from a farm field in Gaya district on Friday morning, police said.
The incident was reported from Sherpur village under the Belaganj police station area, where local residents noticed the body lying in a farm field and informed authorities.
The deceased has been identified as Shantanu Kumar alias Bahadur, a resident of Sherpur village. According to family members, he had been missing since Thursday.
Police and forensic teams at the spot
Belaganj station House Officer Kamlesh Paswan reached the scene along with police personnel after receiving information about the incident. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team also visited the site as part of the investigation.
Police said the body bore visible injuries, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
The body has been sent for autopsy and officials said statements from local residents are being recorded.
Family members had been searching for victim
According to villagers, residents heading towards the fields in the morning noticed the body lying there and alerted the family.
The incident led to large crowds gathering at the site, while family members were seen mourning the death.
Some local residents alleged that the victim may have been attacked with bricks or stones, though police have not officially confirmed the claims.
Motive yet to be established
Officials said the motive behind the suspected killing is yet to be established and investigations are ongoing.
