Gayaji: In a shocking case of false reporting, a family in Gayaji misled the police for six days by filing a fake kidnapping complaint against their daughter’s boyfriend. To strengthen their claim, the family even staged a road blockade on 16 August, creating unrest in the area.
The family had accused Saddam Mian, the daughter’s boyfriend, and his friend Pehlwan Mian of abducting the 25-year-old woman. Out of fear of the ongoing police raids, both surrendered before the court. However, as no evidence supported the allegations, the police widened their investigation.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Kamlesh Kumar informed that over 300 call records, CCTV footage, and technical surveillance were examined. CCTV cameras revealed her leaving her home alone. Further investigation led to the tracing of her mobile number, which took the police 270 km away to Gopalganj, where she was found safe.
During questioning, she admitted she was in love with a Muslim man, which her family opposed. Following a dispute at home on 14 August, she left the house on her own. “My family did not want me to talk to him, so I decided to leave,” she told the police.
The police also discovered that her mother was aware her daughter had not been kidnapped. Contrary to the family’s claim that the ‘kidnapped woman’ had no mobile phone, investigators found she was carrying one and had been searching for jobs in Patna and Gopalganj.
Earlier, police had even detained a local youth, Suraj Paswan, for questioning, but he was found to be uninvolved. Eventually, it became clear that the kidnapping case had been fabricated by the family.
SDPO Kamlesh Kumar said strict legal action would be taken against those who misled the police and disrupted public order by blocking the road. “No incident should be linked to communal tension. Action will be taken against anyone spreading false information or unrest, irrespective of religion, caste, or community,” he stated.
