What To Check When Buying Gold
Consumers buying gold jewellery are advised to check whether the product carries a Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) hallmark. The hallmark helps identify the purity of the gold.
Buyers should also compare the prevailing gold price from reliable sources before making a purchase. Gold rates differ according to purity, including 24-carat, 22-carat and 18-carat gold.
Another factor is the making charge, which jewellers add for converting gold into jewellery. Making charges can vary between jewellers, so buyers can ask for a clear breakup of labour and other charges before completing the purchase.
With gold and silver prices continuing to fluctuate, checking purity, the applicable rate and additional charges can help buyers understand the total cost of their jewellery purchase.
