Patna: Patna police are set to conduct narco-analysis tests on the key accused in the high-profile murder of businessman Gopal Khemka, as investigators intensify efforts to uncover the full extent of the conspiracy.
Khemka, a prominent figure in Bihar’s business circles, was fatally shot outside his apartment gate in Patna late at night earlier this month. The assailant, lying in wait, opened fire on Khemka while he was seated in his car.
Following swift action by authorities, two individuals — alleged mastermind Ashok Sao and shooter Umesh Yadav — have been taken into custody. The suspected arms supplier was killed in a police encounter. Both Sao and Yadav are now being interrogated on remand.
Police have indicated that narco tests will be conducted on the arrested pair to establish the full sequence of events and uncover any further involvement. “We believe more people were part of this conspiracy, either directly or indirectly,” a senior police official said. “Solid evidence is being gathered, and more arrests are expected soon.”
So far, investigations point to a land dispute as the primary motive. According to police, there was ongoing tension between Khemka and Sao over three to four parcels of land. Sao, who initially claimed innocence, was placed at the crime scene by mobile location data. Under interrogation, Yadav reportedly confessed that Sao had hired him to carry out the killing.
The police recently recreated the crime scene as part of the investigation. Sao is also said to have revealed details about a specific piece of land he was negotiating, which may have triggered the fatal attack.
