Bhagalpur: Despite heightened security measures during Shravani Mela 2025, incidents of theft continue to plague pilgrims on the holy Kanwaria route between Sultanganj and Deoghar. On Wednesday morning, around a dozen Kanwariyas reported their mobile phones missing while walking the Kachhi Kanwaria Path near Sangrampur in Bihar’s Munger district.
According to reports, a man disguised as a Kanwaria was caught red-handed by fellow devotees after several noticed their phones had disappeared. Upon searching him, the group found multiple stolen handsets in his possession. The accused had already removed and discarded the SIM cards.
The suspect was taken to the temporary police outpost (TOP) established for the mela at Laudhia, where he was handed over to the police after being roughed up by the crowd. Along with the phones, there were also complaints of missing cash and bags from other pilgrims.
