Gopalganj/ Patna: Residents of Gopalganj can breathe a sigh of relief as the Bihar government has approved the construction of a new bypass road aimed at alleviating the district’s persistent traffic congestion. The 3.18 km bypass, with a width of 30 meters, will connect Mirganj to the Bhagipatti-Samaur road.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 130 crore, has received departmental clearance and the Road Construction Department has initiated the tendering process. Mirganj has long grappled with severe traffic jams. Despite the construction of the Mirganj-Siwan bypass five years ago, congestion has persisted, causing inconvenience to commuters and hindering economic activity.
“This bypass is a much-needed development for Gopalganj,” said a local resident. “The traffic in Mirganj has become unbearable, especially during peak hours. This new road will make a huge difference.”
The bypass will originate near the NH 531 Salempatti petrol pump and connect with the second kilometer of the Mirganj-Bhagipatti-Samaur road. It will also feature a railway overbridge near Salempatti village, eliminating the need for commuters to wait at the Raven railway crossing between Thawe and Hathua stations.
This infrastructure project promises significant benefits for the region. In addition to easing traffic flow in Mirganj, it will facilitate smoother travel to surrounding areas, including Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, and provide a direct link to Sabeya airstrip from the district headquarters.
The bypass road was announced by the Chief Minister during his Pragati Yatra, and land acquisition for the project is currently underway. The construction of this bypass is expected to boost connectivity, improve accessibility, and enhance the overall quality of life for the people of Gopalganj.
