Patna: With the Bihar Assembly elections fast approaching, the opposition Grand Alliance held a key meeting on Sunday evening at the residence of Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav at 1 Polo Road in Patna. The meeting, attended by senior leaders from all constituent parties, is being viewed as the final stage of seat-sharing discussions within the alliance.
Among those present were Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni, Congress state president Rajesh Ram, and leaders from the Communist Party of India (Marxist), along with several RJD MLAs including Ajay Singh.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Mukesh Sahni said that an announcement regarding seat distribution was imminent. “Discussions on seat-sharing within the Grand Alliance are in the final phase, and a formal announcement can come anytime,” he told reporters.
Echoing RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav’s call for free and fair elections, Sahni accused the ruling NDA of attempting to “destroy democracy.” He alleged that money power was being used to influence voters and claimed the Election Commission had failed to act impartially.
“It is the Election Commission’s responsibility to ensure fair elections. But the way things are being handled right now raises serious questions. The Commission seems to be leaning towards the NDA. However, the people of Bihar will give their verdict and protect the Constitution,” Sahni said.
The meeting is expected to finalize the Grand Alliance’s seat-sharing formula among key allies — including the RJD, Congress, Left parties, and VIP — as the opposition seeks to mount a united challenge to the NDA in the upcoming Bihar elections.
