Gridlock on Gandhi Setu: Four-Hour Jam Brings Traffic to a Halt

Patna :  A massive traffic jam on the Gandhi Setu bridge has brought movement to a halt for over four hours, causing severe disruption to commuters travelling between Patna and Hajipur. Both lanes of the bridge remain blocked, with frustrated passengers abandoning vehicles to cross on foot amid the gridlock.

Eyewitnesses reported an absence of traffic police on the scene, compounding the chaos. The bridge, a critical artery for both passenger and freight traffic in Bihar, is currently choked with heavy trucks occupying both directions.

“I’ve been stuck for nearly two hours,” said Deepesh Pathak, a passenger trying to reach Motihari. “I caught my bus from Bairiya at 4am, and it has been crawling since it entered the bridge. I don’t know when we’ll move. My plans are completely derailed.”

Others, like Rohan Gautam, travelling to Sitamarhi with family in a private car, expressed frustration at the lack of movement and mounting discomfort. “We’ve been stuck here for 45 minutes,” he said. “There are small children with me – they’re getting restless. But what can we do? We’re all stuck in the same situation.”

The congestion appears to be worsened by the overwhelming presence of heavy goods vehicles. Witnesses described cargo trucks occupying both lanes, with some vehicles forming parallel rows even within the narrow confines of the bridge’s one-way stretch.
