Kosi River in Spate, Flood Concerns Rise in Supaul
In Supaul, the Kosi River is swelling due to heavy rainfall in Nepal. At 1 am on Monday night, nearly 2.75 lakh cusecs of water were released from the Kosi Barrage, prompting authorities to open 34 out of 56 gates. This has led to flood-like conditions in villages inside the east–west embankment across Basantpur, Nirmali, Marouna, Saraigarh-Bhaptiyahi, Kishanpur, and Sadar zone areas of Supaul district.
Weather Forecast for the Coming Days
The Met Department noted that the monsoon has weakened across Bihar, but fresh activity is expected between September 11 and 18, bringing widespread heavy rainfall. Meteorologists predict that after September 10, most parts of the state will experience stronger monsoon activity. While farmers are expected to benefit from the rains, cities could face waterlogging and traffic congestion.
“Once heavy rains begin, temperatures will drop, and humidity will reduce significantly,” a Met official said, adding that North Bihar and the Kosi-Seemanchal region are likely to see the heaviest downpour.
Weather in the Last 24 Hours
In the past 24 hours, Kaimur, Munger, and Jamui districts witnessed rainfall, while Patna, Ara, and Bhagalpur received heavy showers late at night, bringing temporary relief from the heat. Muzaffarpur recorded the highest temperature at 34.2°C, followed by Patna at 34.1°C, and Darbhanga and Motihari at 33.4°C.
With rain alerts in 23 districts and rising water levels in rivers, authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain cautious.
