Holi Festivities Marred by Tragedy in Bihar as 14 Die in Accidents

Patna: The festival of Holi turned tragic in Bihar as 14 people lost their lives in separate accidents across the state on Friday. While celebrations were in full swing in many districts, the festivities were overshadowed by incidents of drowning and road accidents.

According to police sources, fatalities were reported from multiple districts—four each in Madhubani and Begusarai, three in Muzaffarpur, two in Supaul, and one in Samastipur.

In Madhubani, four young women, including two sisters, drowned in a water-filled pit in Dahila village under Arer police station limits. The deceased were identified as Kajal Kumari (19) and Chanda Kumari (25), daughters of Srikant Rai, along with Nibha Kumari (20) and Annu Kumari (19).

Begusarai witnessed four deaths in three separate incidents. Two teenagers, Devraj Kumar (13) and Abhinav Kumar (16), drowned in the Ganges while bathing after playing Holi in Kharhat village under Sahebpur Kamal police station. In another incident, Dharamveer Kumar (8) died after falling into a school water tank in Chamtha village. A separate accident near the railway overbridge in Zeromile Sahayak police station area claimed the life of Deepak Kumar (30) from Samastipur after two motorcycles collided.

In Muzaffarpur, a speeding pickup truck rammed into two motorcycles near Jhapaha CRPF camp in Ahiyapur police station area, killing three people. The victims were identified as Sudhakar Sahni (56) and his son-in-law Dharmendra Sahni from Rampurhari police station area, and Subodh Kumar (28) from Mohanpur village under Shivayapatti police station.

Supaul reported two deaths and three injuries in a head-on collision between two motorcycles near Khattar Chowk on National Highway 327E in Triveniganj police station area. The injured were shifted to a higher medical facility after receiving initial treatment at Triveniganj Hospital. The deceased were identified as Amrit Kumar (38) from Malhanama Baljoda village and Ajay Kumar (27) from Mirza village.

In Samastipur’s Warisnagar police station area, a 24-year-old man, Sanjan Kumar, died after his motorcycle lost control and crashed into a roadside shop. He was returning home after celebrating Holi.
