Munger: The murder of Haryana-based businessman Praveen Tandon, who was found dead in Munger on February 17, has been solved by Bihar Police. Investigators have revealed that the killing was the result of a premeditated honeytrap, allegedly orchestrated by Priya Bharti, a woman from Jamui, along with her husband and relatives.
According to the police, Priya first came into contact with Praveen through social media, gradually building a relationship by sending him obscene photos and videos. Once she gained his trust, she demanded ₹5 lakh, which Praveen eventually paid. However, when he began asking for his money back, Priya allegedly became hostile and began plotting his murder.
“The victim was lured to Munger under the pretext of getting his money back. But it was a trap,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation.
On February 17, Priya called Praveen to Munger, claiming she was ready to return the money. But instead, he was murdered in cold blood. Police said the crime was executed by Priya’s husband Raju Sharma, along with his brother Dharmendra Sharma, Priya’s brother Piyush Kumar, and cousin Sumit Kumar.
The couple had reportedly married for love eight years ago and have a five-year-old son.
Accused on the Run, Police Raids Ongoing
Following the breakthrough, police teams have been raiding locations in Jamui and nearby areas to trace Priya and the others involved. On Thursday, officers visited Priya’s in-laws’ house, where her mother-in-law stated that she no longer lives there. “Whoever does wrong will face the consequences. We will cooperate with the police,” she reportedly told investigators.
Police officials believe that Priya and her husband fled together after the murder and are actively working to track down their location.
“We have strong leads and are committed to bringing all the accused to justice,” the investigating officer said.
