House of Accused in Muzaffarpur Gangrape-Murder Demolished Amid Investigation

Muzaffarpur: In an echo of recent actions in Uttar Pradesh, the house of an accused in a brutal gangrape and murder case in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was demolished by authorities on Saturday, August 17. The police, accompanied by a bulldozer, first carried out attachment and seizure procedures before leveling the property.

The case revolves around the kidnapping, gangrape, and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Muzaffarpur. The victim was abducted at gunpoint from her home, and her body was discovered the next day, unclothed. Despite the severity of the crime, the primary accused, Sanjay Rai, along with four others, remains at large. Even after seven days, the police have not apprehended any of the suspects.

In an effort to pressure the accused into surrendering, the police, under the direction of the court, pasted a notice at Sanjay Rai’s residence on Friday. The notice, issued by SDPO Kumar Chandan, warned that the property would be confiscated if Rai did not surrender by noon on Saturday. Subsequently, the house was demolished.

One suspect, Mithilesh Rai, who is believed to have assisted Sanjay Rai in fleeing, has been arrested. Additionally, the police conducted a raid on the residence of Saraiya’s Deputy Chief Councilor, Dilip Rai, who is accused of harboring the main suspect. A Bolero belonging to Sanjay Rai was recovered from the premises, but Dilip Rai has since fled.

Further investigation has revealed extensive phone communication between the main accused, Sanjay Yadav, and the victim in the month leading up to the crime. Police records show that Sanjay called the victim 213 times, and she returned 209 calls. On the day of the incident, the victim’s elder sister also spoke to the accused, though she has not provided substantial information to the police.

The harrowing case has shocked the community, particularly due to the brutality involved. According to police sources, the 45-year-old accused, a married man with three children older than the victim, had been pressuring the family for marriage. When the family refused, he allegedly carried out the horrific crime, including the mutilation of the victim’s body.
