Patna: Chanchal Kumar, a 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Bihar cadre, has been appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, according to a government notification issued on Tuesday.
Kumar is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry for Development of North Eastern Region. His new posting marks a key shift within the Union government’s top bureaucracy.
Before moving on central deputation, Kumar was a long-serving Principal Secretary to Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, a role he held for several years and was widely seen as one of the most influential positions in the state administration.
He began working closely with Nitish Kumar during the chief minister’s first tenure and continued in the role until January 2022.
After moving to central deputation, Kumar was appointed Managing Director of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), under the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
