Patna: A one-day workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in medical research was held at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, as faculty and researchers gathered to examine how emerging technologies are reshaping academic practice.

Organised by the Department of Community Medicine, the workshop – titled “AI Tools for Medical Research: From Research Writing to Responsible Use” – aimed to build awareness of how artificial intelligence can support scientific writing, data analysis and research workflows, while also addressing questions of ethics and responsible application.

Speakers included Dr Ravleen Kaur Bakshi and Dr Gunjan Kumar from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Dr Aditya Kumar Padhi, and Amarjeet Yadav of the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) (IIT-BHU), Varanasi. Sessions covered the fundamentals of scientific writing, live demonstrations of AI-based tools and discussions on their ethical implications in medical research.

Senior officials from IGIMS attended the event, including the dean, Dr Om Kumar; Dr B P Sinha, DDA; Dr Rajesh Kumar, dean (research); Dr Manish Mandal, medical superintendent; and Dr Ranjit Guha, principal. The institute said the workshop reflected its broader push to integrate AI-enabled methodologies into mainstream medical research under the leadership of its director, Dr Bindey Kumar.

According to Dr Sanjay Kumar, the organising chair, the workshop marked a step towards embedding AI-based approaches in routine research practice. Dr Tulika Singh, organising secretary, thanked the speakers and participants, stressing the need for sustained capacity building in modern research tools.

Faculty members, residents and researchers from various departments took part in the programme, which concluded with discussion sessions and feedback from attendees.
