Patna: IIT Patna is set to host the Annual Conference of Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM) from July 10 to 12, marking the first time the prestigious event will take place in India’s eastern region.

The conference, backed by funding from the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) under India’s Department of Atomic Energy, has also secured support from the Committee for Women in Mathematics (CWM) of the International Mathematical Union and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) in Chennai.

Led locally by organisers Dr Kumari Saloni, Dr Prashant Kumar Srivastava, and Dr Sushmitha P., the gathering promises to bring together a vibrant community of mathematicians from across India and abroad.

The three-day event will feature keynote lectures by leading scholars from institutions including the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Sophia University in Tokyo, several IITs, and IISER Thiruvananthapuram.

Alongside the headline talks, attendees can look forward to contributory presentations and poster sessions, designed to encourage dialogue between early-career researchers and established figures in the field.

Organisers say the conference will serve as a crucial platform for women mathematicians to share research, build networks, and find mentorship, helping to strengthen the role of women in mathematical sciences across India.
