Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather alert for Bihar, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall in several districts even as heat and humidity continue to affect large parts of the state.

According to the latest bulletin, weather conditions are expected to remain unstable over the coming days, with some districts likely to receive significant rainfall while others continue to experience rising temperatures.

The alert for June 7 (Sunday) covers Patna, Gaya, Buxar, Siwan, Saran, Nalanda, Vaishali, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Madhubani, Purnia, Araria, Kishanganj, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Munger and Lakhisarai.

Residents have been advised to remain alert and take precautions during periods of intense weather activity.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded In Parts Of Bihar

The weather warning comes after several districts recorded substantial rainfall over the past 24 hours.

According to IMD data, heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm was reported in some parts of the state. The Ballia area of Begusarai district recorded 8 cm of rainfall during the period.

Meteorologists said the rainfall was associated with pre-monsoon weather systems that continue to influence conditions across Bihar.

Strong Winds And Thunderstorms

Several districts also experienced thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds over the past day.

Wind speeds ranging between 40 kmph and 60 kmph were recorded in different parts of the state. The highest reported wind speed was 56 kmph in East Champaran district.

The department warned that similar conditions could persist in the coming days, increasing the risk of damage from strong winds, lightning strikes and localised flooding.

Heat Persists In Several Areas

Despite the rainfall activity, temperatures remain elevated across parts of Bihar.

In Patna, the maximum temperature is forecast to reach 37°C on June 7, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain around 28°C.

Weather officials noted that a combination of high humidity and rising temperatures continues to create uncomfortable conditions in many districts, particularly where rainfall has been limited.

Safety Advisory Issued

The Meteorological Department has urged residents to exercise caution during thunderstorms and lightning activity.

People have been advised to avoid open fields, waterlogged areas and vulnerable structures during storms. Authorities have also recommended taking shelter in permanent buildings or concrete structures when lightning activity is reported.

Officials warned that sudden weather changes are likely as Bihar enters a crucial pre-monsoon period, with the southwest monsoon expected to advance further across eastern India in the coming weeks.

The department said it would continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as weather systems evolve.
