Patna: Patna is set to receive a major transport infrastructure upgrade with the completion of the Mithapur–Chiraiyatand Flyover project, which officials expect to be ready by December 2026.
Road Construction Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal reviewed the progress of the project on Saturday. During the inspection, he examined the construction of approach roads and service lanes that will connect the Mithapur Flyover with the Chiraiyatand Flyover. The review was conducted in the presence of departmental engineers and technical teams.
Officials stress adherence to timeline
During the inspection, the secretary directed contractors and engineers to maintain construction quality and ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated timeframe. He also emphasised strict compliance with safety standards throughout the construction process.
The flyover corridor will connect R Block Golambar, GPO Golambar, Mithapur Golambar and Karbigahiya Station, extending towards Kankarbagh. Officials expect the route to facilitate smoother traffic movement across some of Patna’s busiest stretches.
Project cost and current status
The project is being constructed at an estimated cost of RS. 292.74 crore and has a total length of 1,730 metres.
According to the department, foundation work has been completed, while substructure, superstructure and approach road construction are around 70% complete.
In the first phase, work between GPO Golambar and the old bus stand is targeted for completion by July. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by December 2026.
Expected relief from traffic congestion
Officials said the flyover is intended to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in central Patna, particularly around Karbigahiya railway station, which regularly experiences heavy traffic bottlenecks.
Once operational, the corridor is expected to provide a direct and faster route for vehicles travelling from the newly constructed Mithapur–Mahuli Flyover towards the city.
Improved connectivity with NH-30 bypass
The project will also connect Mithapur Golambar directly with the NH-30 Bypass, allowing both inter-city and through traffic to avoid several congested inner-city roads.
Officials believe the new link will improve traffic distribution across the city and strengthen connectivity between Patna’s transport corridors, reducing travel time for commuters and commercial vehicles alike.
