Patna: In a move aimed at cutting red tape and reducing queues at government offices, authorities have rolled out a digital application process for birth certificates that can be completed online in under 10 minutes.
Parents will no longer be required to visit local offices or wait for days to secure the document. Instead, applications can now be filed from home using a computer or even an Android mobile phone.
Streamlined process
The shift to an online system marks a significant simplification. Previously, securing a birth certificate could take several days and involved multiple visits to government departments. Now, applicants can complete the process by uploading necessary documents directly to the portal.
To apply, parents must provide an identity card, Aadhaar card, Samagra ID, residence certificate, hospital discharge report, a mobile number and a passport-sized photograph. Applications lacking these documents will be rejected.
Why it matters
A birth certificate is a child’s first official document and is essential for school admission, vaccinations through the Anganwadi system, access to healthcare, and eligibility for future government schemes.
Fee structure
Applications made within a month of birth incur a nominal fee of Rs 10. The cost rises to Rs 30 for applications made after six months. For those filed more than a year later, the fee increases to between Rs 55 and Rs 60.
How to apply
Applicants must first visit the official website dc.crsorgi.gov.in, register as a public user, and log in. They can then fill out the online form, upload required documents and submit the application. The certificate is issued within the stipulated timeframe.
